Fresh faces

k-os ATLANTIS-Hymns for Disco
[Virgin Records]

A rapper from Canada with talent. You heard right. k-os puts it down on his new album, ATLANTIS-Hymns for Disco, so get ready to be impressed. The Toronto-raised, Trinidad-born MC is a promising Chauncey in the hip-hop world. His innovative style fuses multiple genres of music to create an album that’s stacked with tracks that make you want to get up and get moving—especially “Valhalla,” which features guest vocals from Kevin Drew of Broken Social Scene. His music is fresh, uplifting and everything you’d want to hear when you’re needing some inspiration and motivation.

Top tracks:

“Electrik Heat-The Seekwill”— At first, it sounds old school—like Color Me Badd with a faster beat. But listen through and you’ll hear stronger rhythms that will fire you up.
“Sunday Morning” — Think of this tune as you’re doing up-downs; its killer drums will keep you ready for more.
“Born to Run” — This one just has a wicked sound.

Sondre Lerche and the Faces Down
Phantom Punch [Astralwerks]

After touring with Elvis Costello, Sondre Lerche was ready to get back to the studio for some major reinvention. On Phantom Punch, his latest release, Lerche’s goal was to deliver concise, energetic pop songs. Mission accomplished. Packed with hooks and lyrics that will keep your head bobbin’, the 11-track disc flaunts a back-to-basics approach. The 24-year old singer-songwriter proves his music has evolved with edgier sounds and a tougher attitude than what’s on all three of his previous releases. It’s noise that will definitely get you aggressive and pumped for game time.

Top tracks:

“Airport Taxi Reception” — Great song for the ride to an away game. This chill tune with a light tempo will definitely send some good vibes your way.
“Phantom Punch” — Packed with tight beats, this song was made for your warm-up soundtrack.
“Say It All” — With rhythms that are less intense than the rest of the album, this easy-going track is great for while you stretch.
