Dope Debuts
Collie Buddz Collie Buddz
[Columbia Records]
If you’re not a fan of reggae, listen to the music from this lyrically gifted singer-songwriter. He might change your mind. A fresh face in the music scene, Collie Buddz is already making serious waves overseas with his hip-hop and soca rhythm blend. His tunes are both musically and lyrically soundeven somewhat reminiscent of Damien Marley’s Welcome to Jamrock. Dropping this summer, Buddz’ self-titled debut is a must-hear.
Top track:
“Come Around” The smooth tempo of this tune is perfect for when you’re sitting around between tourney games. It’s also good noise for the weight room.
Twisted Black Street Fame
[TVT Records]
Add listening to Twisted Black’s new album, Street Fame, to your summer to-do list. The 18-track disc is worth every minute. Although it’s the Texas MC’s first solo effort since signing with TVT Records last summer, he’s no music industry rookie. A legend in the underground rap world, Black was once part of the hip-hop duo One Gud Cide [circa 1995]. His current release is about his street life struggles. Expect raw reality rap with well mixed cuts.

T-Hud Undrafted [EMI, Nutty Boyz Entertainment]
Pro ball isn’t the only thing Troy Hudson does well. The Minnesota Timberwolves guard also knows how to drop mad beats. In his major debut release, Undrafted, the rapper/songwriter/producer puts his MC skills to the test. And if you think it’s going to be another athlete’s tragic attempt at the mic [i.e., Deion Sanders and Shaq], think again. With almost 2,000 self-penned tracks in the bank, T-Hud chose 18 solid cuts for his musically diverse album, which features Three 6 Mafia, Ray J, Static and UGK. The tunes are packed with loud, high-energy sounds that are perfect for a workout mix.
