Nothing can teach you how to play like a team, or demonstrate the courage it takes to compete, like a quality war movie. We nominate some of the best to show you what conflict is all about—and to affirm that your on-field battles aren’t the only ones worth fighting.

REVOLUTIONARY WAR
The Patriot [2000]
True devotion to his family and the perfect rage ignited by seeing his son murdered drive a peaceful farmer [Mel Gibson] to lead a small militia of volunteers against British invaders and their sadistic captain in this inspiring story.

WW II [European Front]
Band of Brothers [2001]
This HBO miniseries chronicles the trials of Easy Company of the 101st Airborne Division in Europe, from Operation Overlord to V-J day. Not only is it an epic piece of filmmaking, it’s also an excellent history lesson on the major battles of WW II.
Runner-up: Saving Private Ryan

VIETNAM
The Deer Hunter (1978)
Want a glimpse into the horrors of the Vietnam War and the detrimental effects it had on the lives of those who were haunted by it? This film is a journey of friendship, but one that shows what a powerful force war is and how it can destroy almost anything. Warning: Not an uplifting film.
Runners-up: Apocalypse Now, Platoon
