After school, we go to a focus meeting. It’s in the dark, and we’re told something inspiring to get us ready for the game. Before we take the field, we get a break; then we’re off to the races. [After victory or defeat], we take a knee in the end zone, go over the game with our coaches, and then thank our fans for being there.

Before the season, we have Midnight Madness on the first day we’re allowed to practice, so then we can say we were the first team to practice that year. The night before a game, we have a team dinner at a player’s or a coach’s house, watch a basketball movie and spend the night, followed by a full breakfast before the game.

How does your team unite before a game? What about after victory, defeat or deep in the off-season? Is there a prayer or chant you say together before the game? A meal you share? A movie you watch? Bring it to us at letters@stack.com. If we like what you got, we’ll feature your team story.
