Before you put ink to paper, know this about the National Letter of Intent [NLI].
What it is
A NLI is a binding agreement declaring that you will attend a designated college or university for one academic year. In exchange, the college or university will award you financial aid for one academic year. The purpose of the NLI is to minimize recruiting pressure for prospective student-athletes. Consequently, it is not mandatory to sign.
When you sign
Colleges and universities participating in the NLI program are no longer permitted to make recruiting contacts with you.
If you breach the NLI
You must forfeit one season of collegiate competition, and you will not be permitted to represent another college or university until you complete one full academic year there.
Initial signing dates this month* Football, Soccer, Track & Field, Cross Country, Field Hockey, Men’s Water Polo
*Begins February 6
