If you think a sugar-loaded drink is the perfect afternoon pick-me-up, it’s time to wake up. According to a study published in Human Psychopharmacology: Clinical and Experimental, participants who consumed high sugar drinks had slower reaction times, less ability to concentrate and greater feelings of sleepiness than the placebo group when tested about one hour after consumption. Keep those repercussions in mind next time you reach for a soda around practice or game time.
