With spring break around the corner and summer not far behind, staying focused on school may be difficult. But just like training, you need to study regularly. Margaret Akerstrom, senior assistant director of academic services at Northwestern, says the best way to balance sports and school is by scheduling a break between the two.

“Schedule a little downtime for yourself when you don’t do anything related either to your athletics or your academics, so your brain has a chance to catch up and remember everything you’ve just learned.”

Keep in mind that solid grades and good stats go hand-in-hand when getting into college. Akerstrom says, “The motivation should be this: if you want to have an open door to any school, you have to focus on academics every day.”
