Watching LBJ on the tube is one way to expand your knowledge of the game. Another is to take some pointers from the man himself at the third annual LeBron James King's Academy this summer. Read on for the hoop scoop on this youth camp from academy executive director Damon Haley.
To be held June 21-25 at the University of Akron in LeBron's hometown, the academy focuses on improving your b-ball proficiency through five days of action-packed instruction from a premier coaching staff, including LeBron's former high school coach, Dru Joyce.
"[LeBron] is vested in the success of all the campers," Haley says. "He's there every day, from welcoming kids and taking individual photos to giving autographs, doing lectures and on-court instruction."
Expect pointers on rebounding, passing, shooting, dribbling and defense fundamentals through daily drills and 5-on-5s, which LeBron will help ref.
"The only way to [further your basketball career] is through practice, through training, through repetition-through habit [until] it becomes instinct," Haley says. "You need to combine what you learn with your God-given ability, and I think our camp provides that environment."
Registration for day campers is $480 and $600 for overnighters. For more info, check out lebronjameskingsacademy.com.
