Every year, top high school ballers gather for the invite-only adidas Nations camp. Although dominant athletes bring an array of high-level skills, the essential fundamentals are stressed throughout.

Former NBA star Detlef Schrempf coached up the low-post studs on the fundamentals of getting it done on the block. In an age when throwing down thunderous dunks is viewed as a necessity, Schrempf broke the mold, having his big men perform drills that enhanced their footwork and technique. He says, “In a game, you’re not going to dunk a lot, so you want to work on all those [other] shots around the basket.”

Schrempf’s campers performed the 6-Shot Circuit, a drill that incorporates all the shots a low-post player needs to be successful and that teaches patience on the block. “In the post, you don’t need to be in a hurry,” he says, “because you’re in a strong position with the ball, so there’s no need to make a quick move where you travel.”

If you’re looking to score at will in the post and want to improve all aspects of your low-post game, grab a partner and try Schrempf’s 6-Shot Circuit. Complete the circuit three times, performing all three types of shots in continuous fashion.
