Ginger has more value than simply serving it as a palate cleanser for sushi. According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, the use of ginger has been suggested for medicinal purposes, like helping alleviate joint and muscle pain. Take a hint from Dallas Mavericks forward Brandon Bass, who incorporates the root into his diet through a post-workout recovery drink that also includes a mix of beets, celery and apples.
