As the leaves start to change, so should your wardrobe. Here, insiders from Akademiks and Unionbay suggest a few things you should think about when you hit the mall this season.

For the Fall/Winter ’08 season, Akademiks and Unionbay designers focused on pieces that move from day to night and from professional to casual with disarming ease.

“The entire look we’re going for,” says Emmett Harrell, co-founder and creative director for Akademiks, “is some mixture of refined with street… [so] that you can wear [the clothes]…anywhere.” The creative team at Unionbay is on the same page. PR manager Marissa Rowan says, “[This year’s collection] is really for anybody. STACK readers…can take any one of these pieces and transition it from day to night."

Besides versatility, other trends reflected on the racks this season are lumberjack plaid on everything, from button-downs to track jackets; extreme detail in the form of foil-printed shirts and two-toned jeans; Japanese graffiti-inspired prints on t-shirts and hoodies; and color everywhere.

Harrell and Rowan agree that you don’t need to buy out the mall to look fresh. Pair a new item with some of the classic pieces you already own to bring new life to your style without busting the family budget.
