It often seems like there’s not enough time in the day. But instead of watching the arms race on the clock, why not make the most out of your every waking hour?

“I finally got into a time management course [in college], and they told me to write my life down,” says former NFL defensive end Marcellus Wiley. “I looked at it and realized 24 hours for me is the same 24 hours for Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey [and] Barack Obama.”

As a freshman at Columbia University, Wiley struggled to balance his time between football and a demanding class schedule.

“There are no excuses in life, and time is loyal to no one,” the retired 10-year veteran says. “If you plan your life out and stick to those plans, you’re going to be successful. It filters out all the distractions and detours.”

Wiley’s other words of wisdom are to keep two goals in mind: where you want to start from and where you want to end up.
