When can I start writing to a college coach—and when can a coach write to me?

You can write to a coach any time, but don’t expect a pen pal immediately. A letter counts as recruiting material, which you can’t start receiving from coach until September 1 of your junior year. Men’s basketball and men’s ice hockey have an exception. Athletes of both sports can start to receive correspondence after June 15 at the end of their sophomore year.
